Facts and information about the CLRSD sewer project
We will add more facts as they become available.
Did you know that in Miltona township, a survey was sent out by the township board to the citizens to see if people were for or against the sewer project.
The surveys came back and it was 60% against and 40% for. The board said it was 60% for and 40% against because they added all
people that did not return their surveys as yes votes.
The initial project estimate was $30,000,000. As of 01/01/08 the new estimate is $53,000,000. Since then the price of fuel has went up a lot. Even if people could afford
$53 million, do you really think that will be the final cost?
Click on this link CLRSD cost estimate to see what the CLRSD thinks you will be paying. Remember, the hookup fee is extra and will cost thousands of dollars.
Only 7% of septics on lake Miltona were failing. We are not sure how many septics are on lake Miltona exactly, but even if there were 500, that would only be 35 systems.
At 10,000 per system, this problem could have been fixed for $350,000. Over 100 time less than the sewer project.
According to the CLRSD EAW submitted to the MPCA, the discharge plant will be discharging 340,000 (.34 million) gallons of treated sewage water per day into the Long Prairie river putting several freshwater muscles
in peril(according to the MN DNR). The phosphorus discharge is surpassing the recommended limits. The CLRSD's way to mitigate this situation is by trading with another source in the Lake Pepin water basin.
We are a group of concerned citizens that have formed CLEER, a not for profit organization to fight the unnessesary runaway CLRSD sewer project.
We need your help. It costs money to fight the CLRSD. They are well organized and have lobbyist and a public relations firm
representing them. CLEER is a not for profit organization and your contribution should be tax deductible. We suggest a donation of $200, but anything will help
including donating your time.
Make checks payable to CLEER. Send your donations to:
